This article is about how you can search for duplicate bookings in Trippus to, for example, ensure that participants have not registered multiple times.
Three scenarios where duplicate checking can be good
Scenario 1
Sometimes attendees forget that they have already registered for an event and so they do it again, resulting in two confirmed bookings. If this has happened, you can easily see by searching for duplicates.
Scenario 2
It also happens that a participant who realizes that they have made an incorrect choice or misspelled something in their registration makes a completely new registration instead of contacting them and having their registration corrected.
Scenario 3
Another scenario is that you have sent out a personal invitation via Trippus' invitation module to an invitation list that you have imported into Trippus and in parallel with this you have an open and public registration link where you can register for the event. In this case, it may happen that despite having received a personal invitation, you do not use it and instead register via the public registration link.
When you as an administrator want to send out a reminder to those who have not responded to the personal invitation, there is a risk (chance) that some of the invitees have already registered. Not via the invitation but via the public link. In order to avoid sending a reminder to those who have already registered, you can search for duplicates before sending out your reminder.

There is a setting you can make to prevent participants from booking multiple times. This feature checks that bookings are not made with the same email address.

How to search for duplicates in a single participant category
- Log in to the admin for your event
- From the Home view, click on the grey field with the little person icon - Confirmed bookings, to the right of the name of the participant category you want to search for duplicates in
- In the report, you have the heading Duplicate on the far right - select Yes in the list to display these.
Note that this filtering has the search criterion that the first name, last name and email address are identical! - A list is now displayed with the bookings that have an exact match of the first and last name and email address
How to search for duplicates across the entire event
- Log in to your event admin
- From the Home view, click on the grey box with the little person icon - Confirmed Bookings in the Create/Edit Element row, which shows the number of all categories that have confirmed bookings

Search for duplicates by first and last name or email address
When you search for duplicates as above, Trippus' system looks for bookings with the same first and last name and email address against an exact match of the spelling of these. This means that you can miss duplicates if they used different email addresses or spelled their names slightly differently. To catch these, open the confirmed bookings report for the category or event and sort the Name column and then the Email column (or either of them) and you will see quite clearly if there are duplicates that way.
